Where extreme elation meets crazy, intense fear

Yesterday was our anatomy scan at May.o clinic. I'm happy to report that all babies look completely healthy and normal. They are all measuring ahead of the game at this point. From four days ahead to a week and a half ahead. Great news for triplets!

We also learned that A and B are still girls. But B? A big ol' prude. When the ultrasound tech moved the wand and said, Hmmm...I think it's a girl, she actually moved her hand and covered up the lady bits. I swear I heard her say "What? I'm not an exhibitionist. You WILL NOT be getting a look at these goods"

Baby C is indeed a boy. When the wand hit him I think I said "Oh Jebus" The boy parts were YOUGE! He certainly is packing some heat.

And then came time for the cervical check. Anxious doesn't even begin to describe how I was feeling. She sticks the want in and............shit. I can immediatly see funneling. She does a quick measurment and.....1.5 cm. Balls.

Short cervix at 20.3 weeks = not good. But at least there was still cervix left, right?

So I'm off work effective immediatly. Laying on my side or reclining in a chair at all times. Hoping and praying that these babies stay in for at least 4 more weeks.

We are so very thankful that the babies are looking as good as they are right now. I am so very scared about what could happen next. Aaahh...the roller coaster that is triplets.

  1. Ha! I knew my boy was a boy immediately too ; )

I bet your doctor feels like an ass for not checking your cervix when you asked.

I'm so sorry you have to go on bedrest so soon. Let me know if you need anything!! I hope you have lots of books and TV shows lined up. You certainly have a positive attitude, but bedrest must blow!

  2. I was actually just thinking about you last week when I found out my cervix shortened to under 2 cms with my twins. It is scary but bed rest DOES work! I've been on it for almost two weeks now and so far no change in my cervix. Hang in there!!

  7. If you dr hasn't already suggested it, ask for a cerclage. And if they give you trouble - BEG for one. This is a series of stitches that go around the cervix and then pull together (like a circular purse). It will keep your babies in place longer. Bedrest does the trick for some but not for others. So sorry you have to go through this :(

  9. Hoping you can find something to keep you busy while on bed rest. I've heard the Hunger Games are good and listening to the Harry Potter series on audiobook was amazing.

Really hoping those babies stay put for a good while. Funny your little boy isn't shy at all.

  10. Oh Em!! I am so sorry. I'm sure it's little consolation that there's still 1.5" left, but at least it's something? Is there ANY chance they can do a cerclage, or would it be too traumatic at this point?

I am keeping my fingers crossed and whatever prayers I've got in me heading your way.

  11. I agree about asking about the cerclage or at least progesterone supplementation. My cervix shortened to 0.9cm with my triplets and I was put on hospital bed rest and prepped for a cerclage the following day. Unfortunately, we weren't able to place the cerclage due to a small amount of bleeding, but my MFM planned to start progesterone suppositories and try again in a few days. There definitely are options other than just playing the "wait and see" game. Praying for you and the babies!

  12. Yeah for healthy babies! Short cervixes can go the hell away. Downton Abbey season 1 is on Netflix instant watch. That will take up about 7 hours of bedrest. Then I'd suggest the complete series of both Buffy and Angel, followed by Sex and the City (all 6 seasons of course, you can take or leave the movies) and a Dr. Who marathon. That should take at least a couple months, right? If you get really desperate there's always Gossip Girl and America's Next Top Model! You can do it!

  15. Just waned to say you're n my thoughts! My cervix shortened to 1.9cm at 19w2d with quads. We got to 28 weeks with extremely strict bedrest (only up from horizontal to use the bathroom and to shower once every few days). It sucked but it was worth it!! My doc also gave my progesterone suppositories (diff than the ones for when you're cycling) that are supposed to help. Praying for you!

  17. Gosh, multiple pregnancies are so scary. Well, I guess for me they all would be, but there is so much more to worry about. Bed rest is a good idea, we need those babies to cook longer!!!
    Good luck Emily!

  18. Sending you tons of good thoughts. Your cervix needs to stop screwing around! I agree with a PP that The Hunger Games is a great distraction. Good luck!

  19. I was pregnant with twins, and my cervix started shortening around 24 weeks. At 25 weeks, I was put on full and complete bedrest, sometimes in the hospital, but mostly at home (thank goodness!). All the laying down paid off, I delivered huge and healthy twins at 38.5 weeks. I know triplets are much more difficult to bake, but wanted to share a success story with you. :) Bedrest is not fun, to say the least, but hang in there, mama -- you'll hardly remember it when you are holding your precious little ones! <3
